Michael Humphrey

Professor Michael Humphrey is an academic obstetrician who has chaired the National Maternal and Perinatal Mortality Advisory Group since 2015, is the principal clinical adviser to the maternal and perinatal health unit of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) regarding maternal and perinatal matters, and is the author of several AIHW reports regarding maternal and perinatal mortality.

Michael has held Chairs in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at James Cook University, The University of Queensland and The University of Tasmania. His PhD thesis related to the delivery of appropriate antenatal care to indigenous women in Cape York. He was Editor-in-Chief of The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from 2001 to 2006.
