Dr Kannan Kallapiran

Children’s Health Queensland

Dr Kannan Kallapiran is the Clinical Director of Catherine’s House, a 10-bed mother–baby unit, and also works part-time as a  Senior Medical Officer with the CYMHS Research Team at Children’s Health Queensland. He has over 16 years of experience as a psychiatrist, with specialist interests spanning perinatal and infant mental health, as well as child and adolescent mental health.

His work is grounded in a strong commitment to early intervention and the prevention of mental disorders, particularly through strengthening parent–infant relationships and supporting families during the perinatal period. In addition to his clinical leadership, he is currently undertaking a PhD examining the impact of Positive Childhood Experiences on adult outcomes, reflecting his broader interest in developmental trajectories and resilience.

Dr Kallapiran has also contributed to national initiatives across mother–baby units, with a focus on service-related research and the development of infant mental health models of care. His work integrates clinical practice, research, and service innovation to improve outcomes for infants, parents, and families.
