Associate Professor Alka Kothari is a Senior Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Redcliffe Hospital, a Clinician Researcher Fellow at Metro North Health, and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland. Her PhD research, Forgotten Fathers: The Role of Men in the Journey Through Pregnancy and Birth, examined paternal contributions and experiences in the context of pregnancy and birth, with a particular focus on birth trauma. During her Metro North Health Clinician Researcher Fellowship, she has led the development of consumer co-designed Best Practice Principles (BPPs) to support fathers, non-birthing parents, and families affected by pregnancy and birth trauma. Her current program of research focuses on co-designing targeted, compassion-focused digital mental health interventions and the implementation and evaluation of the BPPs to inform the integration of inclusive perinatal healthcare services.
